Ever since I can remember, I’ve woke up on Christmas morning to the smell of fresh, homemade snails baking in the oven! It’s a Christmas morning tradition that I grew up on – we always eat Cinnamon Sugar Snails and drink homemade wassel as we open up our gifts. It’s kind of an appetizer to our big Christmas brunch! Now, these may always taste like Christmas to me…but they can be enjoyed at any breakfast or brunch year-round! They are ooey, gooey, easy to make and always gone in seconds. You can make them with or without nuts – so there’s a version for everyone!

Ingredients

  • 6 mini buttermilk biscuits (dough)

  • 6 TB brown sugar

  • 6 tsp water

  • 6 TB walnut pieces

  • 1/2 stick of butter

  • CINNAMON SUGAR COATING
  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 3 tsp cinnamon

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Add 1 TB of brown sugar and 1 tsp of water to each muffin cup. Stir until mixture is smooth.
  • Add 1 TB walnut pieces to each muffin cup and set muffin tin aside.
  • Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl and set aside.
  • In a shallow bowl or dish, combine sugar & cinnamon and stir until fully combined.
  • With your hands, roll out biscuit dough into about a 4-5 inch long piece. Dip into melted butter and gently roll into cinnamon sugar coating. Tie the coated dough into a knot and place in muffin cup on top of sugar/walnut mixture.
  • Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes. Immediately, loosen edges of snail with a butter knife and flip upside down onto a plate or baking sheet.
  • Serve immediately!
