If you know my husband or have seen any of his YouTube videos, then you have most definitely heard the term “sludge”- he’s been making his protein sludge for years & has it for breakfast almost every single day! I have to admit – it’s pretty dang delicious and GOOD for you!

Sludge is basically thick protein pudding – just protein powder & a few splashes of almond milk. Sometimes we’ll have it by itself, but our favorite way to enjoy sludge is by making it into a power bowl, loaded with fruit, fiber, healthy fats & tons of flavor. It’s a great way to start your day or even end it (sometimes it tastes more like a dessert!) so here it is – the infamous Nick Bare protein sludge! (We obviously recommend making it with BPN protein because it’s mixability & flavor is AMAZING! But it will work with any protein powder 🙂

Ingredients

  • 2 scoops protein (Nick loves using 1 scoop of BPN Vegan Vanilla & 1 scoop of BPN Chocolate Whey!)

  • 1 TB ground flax seed

  • 1 TB raw cacao powder

  • 1 TB honey

  • 1 TB nut butter

  • 1 TB cacao nibs

  • 2 TB coconut flakes

  • 1 banana

  • milk or milk substitute

Directions

  • In a small/medium bowl, combine protein powder, ground flax seed, and cacao. Slowly add almond milk until it’s a thick, pudding-like consistency. (About 3-4 TB!)
  • If you can, put sludge in fridge for 10-15 minutes.
  • Once sludge is thick & fully combined, top with peanut butter, honey, cacao nibs, coconut flakes & sliced banana. Enjoy!
